Medication and Medical Equipment

Carriage of Medication Onboard

Guests who are required to carry medication for use inflight may do so in their cabin baggage or on their person.  Medication in the form of liquids, aerosols or gels is only permitted to be carried onboard in suitable amounts required for the flight and any possible delays/diversions.

Guests who require medication onboard must be able to self administer their medication.

Guests may be required to produce documentation, confirming their need to carry medication onboard. Medication should also be properly labelled, ideally with the manufacturer’s label still affixed.

Unfortunately, V Australia is unable to store medication in the onboard refrigerators, however if medication must be chilled during the flight, the Guest may carry a small insulated container for storage.  The container must be no larger than standard cabin baggage and must be constructed of material that will prevent any leakage during the flight.  Up to 2.5 kgs of dry ice may be carried in the container as long as this is declared at check in and labelled appropriately.  Ice packs are not permitted due to LAGs restrictions.

Carriage of Sharps for Medical Purposes

Guests who need to carry syringes for medical purposes are required to declare them at the airport screening point.  Guests may also be required to produce documentation confirming their need to carry syringes and any associated medication onboard.

If a Guest needs to dispose of an empty syringe onboard, please contact a Cabin Crew member. All V Australia Flights have a readily available sharps container on board for the safe disposal of used syringes.

If a Guest has an empty syringe, the Guest is required to be carrying the corresponding medication with them. Guests cannot travel with empty syringes and no medication in the cabin.

Medical Equipment

V Australia Guests who need to use medical equipment whilst onboard (battery or power operated) are required to obtain approval from V Australia to ensure the device complies with Australian air safety legislation.

You must complete a Personal Medical Equipment Form and submit this to V Australia at least 6 days prior to your date of travel.  Once you have completed this form please contact our Guest Contact Centre. We will investigate the compatibility of your requirements with our aircraft engineers and advise accordingly
