Booking

At V Australia, our aim is to ensure all our Guests have a safe and comfortable journey. We understand travelling with infants on long flights can be challenging at times.

We’ve put together some information to help ensure your safety and comfort, and an enjoyable trip for our youngest Guests both on the ground and in the air. If you have any more questions please contact our Guest Contact Centre.

Any Guest 23 months or younger for the entire journey, is classed as an infant, and must be accompanied by a Guest 15 years of age and over or the parent/legal guardian who is 13 years of age and over. Any Guest over two (2) years of age but is not yet twelve (12) is classed as a child and must occupy a seat with their own ticket.

You can make bookings online or via the Guest Contact Centre.

Bassinets

Bassinets are available onboard our V Australia international flights for the comfort of your infant, subject to availability. The bassinets are designed for infants only and the maximum weight they can hold is 18 kilograms.

There are only a limited number of bassinet positions on any aircraft so please request a bassinet for your infant when making your booking.

No guarantee can be given that a bassinet will be provided for your infant. Please see below for the bassinet dimensions.

 Bassinet Dimensions
Maximum  Centimetres
 Length  74.8cm
 Depth  36 cm
 Height  22.5cm
 Bassinet Weight Restrictions
 Maximum  Kilograms

Please note that because bassinets are limited, pre-allocation of bassinets are only available for infants of on a first come, first served basis.

Please contact the Guest Contact Centre to organise this facility.

Before You Travel

What can you bring to make your child’s flight safe, comfortable and most of all FUN!

Ensure your child has current travel documents, including valid passports and visas well prior to your travel date.  For further information about what travel documents are required for international travel for Australians, please visit the Department of Foreign Affairs website.

Sometimes children can become anxious about a new or different experience.  We have found explaining the process of checking in, take-off and landing in an exciting new place (or coming home!) eases young minds.

In-flight

To make sure your child will be entertained during your flight we’ve listed a few suggestions of sure-fire winners you could pack in their carry-on baggage so you both have an enjoyable journey.

  • A favourite toy or blanket to help them feel at ease during the flight.
  • Story books to read.
  • Travel games to play.
  • Colouring-in and activity books, and pencils to draw.

All carry-on baggage for your children should still meet baggage allowance guidelines, to find out further details, please view our Baggage information. This section will also detail the enhanced security measures relating to taking liquids, aerosols and gels onboard.

Crying Infants and Children

Infants and children may require some extra care when flying. We want to ensure you are well prepared for your journey.

Why Do Children Cry At Certain Times?

You may have noticed at times infants and children start to cry and put their hands over their ears during take-off and landing. If they cry and you cannot stop them from crying, please do not be alarmed or feel embarrassed. Crying is a natural way for the child to clear their ears, so let them go!

How Can I Help Prevent This?

Infants: To help prevent their discomfort, breastfeed or bottle-feed your infant when the aircraft begins its take-off and landing. If bottle-feeding, you may need to pack an extra bottle for the flight.
Children and Adults: For older children and adults, give them something to chew on, like jelly sweets, so they are constantly chewing and swallowing. This can help prevent discomfort.

Cabin Crew will be happy to heat bottles and assist you with preparing and washing bottles or pacifiers (dummies) on request. There are no private areas set aside for breastfeeding, but you are welcome to feed your baby in your seat.

You will find baby-changing tables in selected washrooms on the aircraft and the Cabin Crew will let you know where these are once onboard. For your own comfort and that of fellow Guests, we would prefer you use these facilities rather than change your baby at your seat.
