Our People
V Australia offer rewarding career opportunities that promote professional growth, lifestyle balance and personal fulfillment. Our airline is powered by passionate people and here are just a few who have helped to make the airline what it is today.
Sue - Manager, People
I jumped on board to V Australia from the People team at Virgin Blue where I was in the role of Manager, People for our Guest Service Systems. After a long career with Telstra in various areas including both Human Resources and operational roles in Engineering, Service and Call Centres, I was attracted to V Australia due to the thought of constant excitement that comes with starting something new. Believe it or not, I was also attracted to the feeling of being under the pump constantly!
I absolutely love the freedom to put my own personal stamp on Australia’s newest international airline, and being forced out of my comfort zone to learn all there is to know about recruiting for an airline - and still managing to meet tight deadlines.
I guess we all learn lessons in a new role; however my most valuable one is knowing that I am not alone. The incredible support network at V Australia makes you believe you can achieve anything, and if it doesn’t go as planned, teamwork is the key to finding a solution.
We have a very passionate, somewhat nervous and excited workforce who can’t wait for the first flight. That last minute anticipation will be an energy which will definitely give us all goosebumps!
With a high level of interest in V Australia, a lot of positions to be filled and many applicants, patience is critical for those wanting a career at the airline. Our core principle for success is relationships with people - we live and breathe the values of this airline, and wholeheartedly have a sheer determination to see V Australia succeed. If you’re at the right place at the right time with the right skills, go through the doors that present themselves. And as they say, the rest is history!
Stewart - Manager, Network Operations
After spending over a decade with the Ansett Group and six years with Virgin Blue, (three of those as Manager of the Operations Control Centre), I jumped at the chance to apply these skills to help launch a new international airline for Australia!
I have had the rare opportunity of watching an airline rapidly expand from a mere three aircraft to over 55, and managing a network which grew at the same rate! However this also presented the occasional difficult challenges along the way! I value my time at Virgin Blue, as I learned how to best use resources and team skills in order to overcome such challenges.
In my role at V Australia, I’m able to apply the lessons I learnt at Virgin Blue and step it up from the operation of a domestic airline to international. I love having an overall view of the business, with the knowledge that each of my daily tasks is contributing to the success of the airline. Now that’s motivation for you!
One of my favourite aspects of working with V Australia is the supportive environment here. We are given the confidence and ability to facilitate change, contribute thoughts and ideas, and have the opportunity to interact with team members across the entire organisation.
As we are pulling this project together with tight timelines, and the fact the planes won’t wait if I’m behind, so sometimes the greatest challenge is trying not to let the team down! It only motivates you to do the best you can do, which I love.
Working at both Virgin Blue and V Australia, I have learnt to expect the unexpected! Be ready at any time for any question, and sometimes the best solution is to just sit back and enjoy the ride!
The greatest reward will be watching that first aircraft arrival, moving our vision into reality. For 2008 and beyond, I’m looking forward to working with such a great team and hopefully exceeding people’s expectations, both internally and externally - blow them away V Australia style!
My best advice for those wanting to pursue a career with V Australia is simple – just give it a go! If you’re up for a challenge, this is definitely the place for you.
Regina - Executive Personal Assistant
Prior to my role with V Australia, I was working in the UK and travelling the world. Little did I know my life was only about to get better!
As PA to the Executive General Manager (EGM), I immediately drew on my energy and strong people skills to work co-operatively with all levels within an organisation. It is important to maintain strong relationships both internally and externally, and never be afraid to try things out of your comfort zone.
When the first rumours of V Australia were announced to the world, I jumped on the chance to do something out of the ordinary. After all, it is not every day you are able to see first hand how an international airline is built from scratch.
The V Australia culture which is embedded in the variety of enthusiastic and driven people who work here, is what makes this less of a ‘job’. I love the satisfaction of knowing each and every team members’ contribution is valuable and combined, we are all working toward the one goal of taking this airline to the skies!
I think the most challenging aspect of working closely with the EGM is maintaining flexibility to suit the various and often urgent needs of the business. And of course diary management – trying to make the impossible possible, and have Scott in ten different places at once!
The arrival of our first shiny aircraft will be an amazing experience, and yet another bonding moment for our dedicated V Australia team!
If you want to be part of international aviation history, then take the plunge and join in! Grab opportunities when they arise, and be prepared for an incredible journey!
Brett - General Manager, Flight Operations
After receiving a life-changing phone call whilst working for a private airline in the Middle East, I must say I jumped at the opportunity to be part of Australia’s newest international airline!
As General Manager, Flight Operations for V Australia, I would like to think I’m bringing a combination of my experience and qualifications to the table, having flown over 18,600 hours and worked in various operational management roles in the United Arab Emirates and for South African Airways.
In my book, it is the people who are key to the success of any organisation, otherwise it is nothing more than a pile of agreements and a few bits of hardware! From my first interview, I knew the people at V Australia were the right fit, and they are yet to prove me wrong.
I love working with various people from different cultures, with individual skills and backgrounds, working as a team to create something out of nothing. We are talking about passionate, enthusiastic, vibrant, highly competent and intelligent people who sincerely want to perform their very best for the company, and therefore have the ability to rise above challenges to often achieve miraculous outcomes.
I guess the biggest challenge at the moment is keeping everything on track as we head towards our first flight . You simply can’t afford to drop the ball or miss a deadline, and knowing this only makes the team strive harder to perform and achieve.
V Australia has reinforced my belief in people, and their ability to achieve amazing results. It is definitely what allows me to enjoy my job, and I never feel as if I’m just heading to ‘work’!
2008 will be a huge year for us, and I’m looking forward to the arrival of our Simulator, the first aircraft and employing that first group of pilots who will be part of Australian aviation history.
If you’re looking for a career with V Australia, you do need to understand it is not a conventional job, and the requirements will go above and beyond your position description. However it will give you the opportunity to do what you do best, apply your strengths and bring your true personality to work. Now what could be better than that?
Chris - Senior Legal Counsel
Having worked as an in-house lawyer for most of my career, it is a refreshing change to be in the role of Senior Legal Counsel for V Australia – my, what an experience!
As a little tacker with a passion for aviation, it is pretty much safe to say this is my dream job! Like John F. Kennedy once said, “We choose to do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard!” It’s not everyday you are able to help establish a new international airline, and overcome the many and varied challenges this presents!
What I love the most about V Australia are the people. It takes an incredible and extraordinary bunch of people to build an airline, people who come from all over the world, who bring different backgrounds and experiences. Everyone has something to add and their contribution is valued, no matter what their age or background.
The most challenging aspect of the job is juggling lots of balls in the air, and doing your best not to drop any! One minute you are speaking with lawyers in another country, the next you can be confirming what phone number we want in the Yellow Pages!
I truly believe that no matter what business you are in, success always comes down to people and relationships. Building and maintaining good relationships both internally and externally are vital, as it is these relationships that will see you through difficult patches and help you overcome what would otherwise be impossible obstacles.
With excitement building towards our first flights, I can’t wait to watch that first aircraft leave the tarmac full of excited V Australia Guests, and sharing the moment with my colleagues from within V Australia and Virgin Blue who have worked so hard to get us there.
For me, V Australia has proven to be a fast paced and dynamic environment which I am thriving on. If you want a challenge and the chance to work with an incredible and diverse bunch of people, this is where you want to be. You should also be prepared to be an active member of the social club!
Andrew - Project Manager, Aircraft Interiors
I jumped at the chance to join V Australia as the opportunity to be part of international aviation history was too good to refuse! I was able to bring onboard my previous experience as an Avionics Design Engineer working on military aircraft, combined with in-flight entertainment and seat electrical engineering experience.
What attracted me most to V Australia was the chance to work for Australia’s newest international airline, and witness first hand the start-up of such an amazing feat. It’s been great working with a variety of external suppliers, and developing relationships with people of all levels and disciplines within an organisation.
I love working with a team of such dedicated and enthusiastic professionals, who all remain committed to the one goal of taking on the world with V Australia!
I can’t wait until that first aircraft is delivered, and I’m sure I’m not the only one! It will definitely be our tangible proof our vision has become an incredible reality.
The long-term career opportunities which exist in an environment which supports personal growth and challenges performance, provides an easy incentive to work your butt off! It is personally and professionally rewarding to rise to challenges and succeed.
If you’re looking for a career with V Australia, be prepared to be up for the challenges, to overcome adversity and work hard. And I guarantee - you’ll have an excellent time doing it!
